PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is officially real! [VIDEO]
Last Updated on Friday, 27 April 2012 02:20 Written by LoganDX Friday, 27 April 2012 02:20
Looks like the internet rumor mill can chalk up one in the win column. Sony has pulled the curtain back on the very much speculated PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, revealing the game that was clouded in murky murkiness. Developed by SuperBot Entertainment, the game is of course a 4 player fighting game using classic characters from PlayStation’s storied history. The gameplay video dropped on the PlayStation Blog shows a fast and fluid fighter with frantic action. The developers are working hard to give each character a healthy move set plus SUPER moves.
So what if it’s a PlayStation skinned version of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros? We’re talking laying the smack down with Kratos, Ratchet, PaRappa the Rapper, Sly Cooper and plenty more bad-ass fighters(Fat Princess?) from the past decade and a half. The backgrounds combine plenty of eye-candy from great games, usually in some crazy combo. We saw Little Big Planet meshed over Buzz TV, the Hydra from God of War, Patapons and more.
Plenty of Nintendo fanboys rave about the love fest that is Smash Bros. and it’s about time Sony fans had their own version. I know I’m excited, how about you geeks? Hit the break and check out the video clip showcasing the awesomeness! PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is scheduled to get more face time at E3 with a hoped release date of the end of 2012.

PlayStation 3 also had a birthday this week in case you forgot.

With all the hub bub surrounding the 10 year celebration of Xbox, many geeks and gamers might have forgotten about the PlayStation 3‘s Fifth birthday. On November 17th 2006, the ebony shined PS3 came crashing down onto North American retail shelves. It was a slightly different affair back then as even the most hardcore of PS fanboys were thrown into a fit over the two different models to choose from, neither of which were very cheap. The faithful did indeed line the sidewalks for days prior to the launch though, investing a considerable amount of money into Sony’s wonder machine. As with all console launches there were problems, robbings, lack of units to fill pre-orders, etc. but the machine still enthralled all who gazed at it.
The last five years have given us Infamous, Uncharted, Resistance, Little Big Planet, a host of updated sequels and some jaw dropping PS2 remakes. We fell in love with the blu ray format and learned to love each other (sometimes quite literally) in PlayStation Home and we even helped crack the mysteries of the human body with Folding@Home. We even saw the return of the DualShock controller. It hasn’t been all roses and chocolates though. We had the Leap Year bug, causing gamers to lose trophies and saves while Sony stayed mum. We lost backwards compatibility with each new version of the deck. Linux was taken away as hackers found nefarious ways to use the Dual-OS option. We lost the PlayStation Network for an agonizing month after hackers tore down the network and we lost faith in Sony as they stayed way too quiet way too long.

After all the rumors, all the wide eyed wonder, Sony’s NGP has a proper name – the PlayStation Vita. The PSVita was officially announced at Sony’s day one E3 2011 press conference. The quad core monster is expected to ship at the end of the year and in two flavors, the WiFi only and the 3G/WiFi model. The WiFi version will cost $249 and the 3G/WiFi model will set gamers back $299 and will be available exclusively at AT&T.
The PSVita has true dual analog thumb sticks (a feature sorely missed from the PSP), an OLED touchscreen, a backside touchpad, front and rear facing cameras, and six axis motion sensors. A slick line up of launch games were also presented at the presser including LittleBigPlanet, Modnation Racers, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Street Fighter X Tekken and a new hack and slasher called Ruin. The PSVita looks good so far but do you geeks think it will be a day one purchase? Hit the jump to see the full press release.
