Lollipop Chainsaw or how I learned to love games again.

While this is in no way a review, I feel the need to gush just a tiny bit about Lollipop Chainsaw. Because until I started playing it, I didn’t realize how much of a gaming funk I was truly in. I have a stack of games sitting in my geek vault just staring at me, begging to be played. I’ve dusted off a couple but to mostly “Meh” feelings of apathy. Even the mega hyped Max Payne 3 did nothing for me, nary a whisper of giddy excitement escaped my lips during the blood soaked but short-lived play session.

The last game I really dived into was Mass Effect 3, maybe the ending crushed my soul more than I knew. As a rabid collector of games I’ve found a few choice titles at insane prices. I’ve shoved them aside as my initial happiness dissipated in a swell of blah hitting my brain. Except I didn’t recognize my problem, that is until I fired up the over the top Lollipop Chainsaw.

Lollipop is a game so crazy, so in love with the idea of a zombie hunting cheerleader that nothing stops being fun. Playing through the beginning of Juliet Starling’s quest to right the horrible zombie wrong, I get the feeling that the game itself is in on the joke and revels in it. The crushed together elements of action based survival horror, sugary sweet sparkle sparkle girly moments and laugh out loud humor made me remember something I had clearly forgotten – games are supposed to be fun.

PAX East had too much sexiness, almost kicks out Jessica Nigri.

Every year since it started, I’ve lamented my lack of ability to scrounge up the funds necessary to attend either of the PAX conventions. After the news from PAX East, I’m really sad. It seems that the official Juliet Starling, Jessica Nigri, brought too much hotness to PAX with her fairly revealing costumes and was asked to change – twice. The outfit in question was the pink one that shows plenty of skin, enough to get complaints.

The problem came in when Jessica changed back into the original Juliet costume she wore a day prior. That too was out of bounds for the show goers, even though it was good enough just one short day earlier. Instead she was  told to tone it down even more or leave and finally changed into a outfit that covered a considerable amount more skin.

Granted, PAX instituted a no booth babes policy to further distinguish itself from other cons but they do allow cosplayers to attend, as long as they are sticking to the source material. Characters like Jessica’s are also allowed as they represent the game itself but they aren’t allowed partial nudity. Not really sure how the first official costume violates that one, that’s the typical amount of flesh one sees on a daily basis and less than what gets displayed on a sunny day.

Pre-order Lollipop Chainsaw, Play as Ash!

Pre-order bonuses are always kind of a hit or miss affair. Ever since retailers started getting exclusive freebies, the pre-order game has been a mad dash of scrambling for the best gift. Best Buy gets this, GameStop gets that and Amazon snags something else. Usually one of them has that must have, fan fave that gets the internet foaming at the mouth.

Not looking to buck that trend is the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw. The zombie slaughtering romp just announced their bonus lineup and have they included a sweet digital freebie! Pre-order the game at GameStop and get a skin to transform Juliet into the old-school horror icon Ash from the Evil Dead movies. Whooping zombie rear as a female version of the chainsaw wielding Ash may just shoot this game up a lot of geeks’ radars.

Amazon is getting a Rockabilly skin and Best Buy nabs Golden Foxy Funk and Goth Girl skins. I’d say unless people are opposed to GS, the pre-orders there are going to start piling up soon. No concrete word on release date but Gamestop has it listed for August 1st. Hit the jump for more images and the announcement trailer.
