Geeky Game Review: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

It feels like the game market has been flooded with either first person shooters or third person shooters. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’s third person action is a breath of fresh air.

The newest, non-canon, Metal Gear is built first and foremost for the action fan. Players are put into plenty of full-tilt, slash and bash situations that require thumb blistering button mashing. Platinum Games does not take it easy on gamers either, tossing gobs of cybernetically enhanced baddies in their faces.

The story is a crazy wild ride involving child soldiers, harvested organs and cyber tech gone wild. The Metal Gear series has always had a reputation for blending a nutso narrative with excellent game play and Kojima’s influence is felt in every cut scene. The characters are not only larger than life but they all seem a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Raiden is no exception but I think we knew that clear back in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Metal Gear fans, we have a lot to look forward to! [VIDEO]

With this being the 25th Anniversary of the blockbuster Tactical Stealth series, Metal Gear, we were bound to get some goodies to pump that blood. We were treated to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance last year and have continued to have more gorgeous assets fall into our laps on a seemingly daily basis. Not scheduled to come out until February 13th of next year, the game has certainly caught the eye of many a fan. At first it was mostly negative but by now I believe even the most die-hard fan is warming up to it.

Raiden was the sucker, the joke of MGS 2 but his return in MGS 4 as the new, more bad-ass Cyborg Ninja gave all of us pause. Now he’s on a mission after the fall of the Patriots. Cyborgs are becoming mainstream with the technology hanging out like Lindsey Lohan‘s naughty bits. Rogue PMCs are using the tech to disrupt lives, Raiden is here to stop them. Unlike Metal Gears of the past, this is no sneaking mission. This is pure, unadulterated action! Hack and slash with Raiden’s high frequency katana, duel other blade wielding psychos and carve out a path of righteous destruction! Sure it’s non-canon but damn if it doesn’t look like a ton of fun.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance news: release date, pics and a video! [VIDEO]

More info is bursting from Konami about the non-canon Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and man I can’t wait to fire it up! As a die-hard Metal Gear fan, I admittedly was hesitant at first about an all action, high speed slash and slice game starring the whipping boy of Metal Gear Solid 2 – Raiden. Bringing on Platinum Games to handle the heavy lifting has given the game a much needed shot of adrenaline. Playing as the Cyborg Raiden, fresh from his scene stealing time in MGS 4, is definitely high on my radar now!

Thanks to gamescon, we have a tank load of screens, concept art and even a flashy video that should make even the nay-sayers shush their mouths! Happily we can also report that the game is finally ready to say when we’ll get to wield that massive sword ourselves – February 19th, 2013! Talk about keeping warm during the winter Konami.

Hit the break and skim through the press release, ogle the pics and watch the video multiple times! Let’s do this Raiden!

Experience revenge AND vengeance with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance screens and Trailer. [VIDEO]

After a hiatus, Metal Gear Rising reemerged with a name modification, new developer and a smoking extended trailer. Now set some time after Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Revengeance will tell a tale of the cyborged to the hilt Raiden in an all out action game. The sneaking is pretty much gone, hence the dropping of the “Solid” part of the title. Players get to concentrate on slicing and dicing enemies like a true ninja cyborg equipped with a high-frequency katana should. How can you go wrong with dismembering PMCs, other enhanced baddies and even Metal Gears?

The game got a shift to Platinum Games, with Kojima Productions over seeing the shenanigans. Platinum, home of Bayonetta and Vanquish, is leaving their over the top action mark all over the title. Some fans felt slighted by the new direction but I can tell you I’m excited for the game. As a very long time Metal Gear gamer, I think it’s time to slaughter some enemies in style. I mean the original version wanted to reward us for not killing bad guys, now we get to! That’s a win in my book! Hit the jump to check out some new screens and the extended trailer. Make sure to watch the end of the trailer for an old-school MGS bit.
