Review: Does Wreck-It Ralph Make It or Wreck It?

Contains minor spoilers. You have been warned!

Wreck-It Ralph promised a video game movie with lots of goodies from well-known games like Street Fighter and Pac-Man, and boy does it deliver. This movie never lets you forget it is in a game. If some characters has some specific sound for some specific action, like Fix-It Felix and his jump with a “boing” sound, then you will hear that “boing” every time Ralph jumps. the background characters in Ralph’s game always move in some way to mimic their 8-bit screen counter-part.

Portal animated film? Yes please!

The image above comes from professional animator Alex Zemke who has worked on massive projects such as Uncharted 2 and 3 as well the Smurf movie. Zemke is working on an animated Portal short film called “Companionship” which is supposedly a “tale of love, loss and cubes”. The still has very strong Pixar vibe about it (think The Incredibles) so, as a huge Portal fan, I am very excited for this. You can browse Zemke’s art and other stills from the short film on his deviantArt page.

Any geeks out there craving a Pixar type Portal 2 movie? Hit the break and blast those comments!

A Monster in Paris. More like a monster in my heart.

Before you look away dismissing this film as a kids movie, let me weave you a tale that captured my cold geek heart. A Monster in Paris is a french film directed by Bibo Bergeron with gorgeous music by Matthieu Chedid, its fascinating and utterly gorgeous CGI makes this film enjoyable for all ages. The humour isn’t too shabby either.

The story begins with the great Seine Flood of 1910, we follow a shy young man named Emilie. Emilie is a projectionist, his passion for film rivals my passion for games. He is in love wtih Maud the ticketwoman at the theatre he works at, not much to say about Maud. His best friend Raoul is a lanky, odd coated fellow. Raoul is an eccentric inventor and a passionate delivery man. We also see Lucille and Commissioner Maynott, Raoul’s childhood friend and beautiful cabaret singer and a man obsessed with winning the next election respectively.

Peep the new Wrath of the Titans trailer! [VIDEO]

Perseus is back to feel the wrath of those nasty Titans! 10 years after he turned the Kraken into chum, the son of Zeus is called back into action. As he tries to live the good life as a single parent, the Gods are feuding. Their power and control is waning as the puny humans turn their backs on the petulant deities. As that happens, the chains keeping Kronos, leader of the Titans, and the rest of the Titans locked in the depths of Tartarus are weakening.

Ever the backstabber, Hades makes a deal to deliver Zeus to the Titans. Once they steal the godly powers of Zeus, the Titans unleash hell on Earth! The wanton destruction prompts Perseus to come out of retirement to save not only his ailing father but the world as well. Feel the Wrath on March 30th!

We can only hope they do a much better job of the 3D this time, Clash of the Titans was ridiculed for its poor 3D. If they pull it off, we’ll have the closest thing to a God of War movie! Hit the break and witness the Wrath!
