X-Men: First Class sequel on the way

X-Men: First Class made a considerable $350 million when it opened earlier this year.  However it has become known that Simon Kinberg is in the process of scripting the sequel to the popular Marvel franchise. Kinberg was the producer for First Class, as well as contributing to other films like Sherlock Holmes and Jumper. However not all fans are happy about this news as Kinberg was a writer on X-Men: Last Stand, a less than successful film.

According to the director of this sequel, Matthew Vaughn, the new film will be “even more fun”. Vaughn compared it to Batman Begins saying that “you have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to know them”, hopefully it’s as good as Batman Begins. He went onto say that this process takes time. Let’s just hope for the sake of the reputation of actors like James McAvoy, who is set to continue playing the role of Professor X, that they spend enough time on it and produce a film worthy of its heritage.

Geek Blu Review: X-Men: First Class [VIDEO]

For just over a decade now, we geeks have been living in a golden age of comic book movies. Starting with the first X-Men movie and steamrolling through Spider-Man, Iron Man, Batman Begins, Captain America, Thor, The Dark Knight and further with the upcoming Avengers movie. For the most part, these movies have shown us how new technology and a big budget can bring to life the four-color adventures we so cherish. While not every movie will be considered great (Daredevil), each movie has brought out the geek in all of us.

When X-Men: First Class was revealed as a prequel, I was disturbed. My opinion on prequels notwithstanding, I wanted more of the future of the X-Men! But we don’t always get what we want, right? Since I most identify with these Children of the Atom and their plight of being outcasts, I was still very much ready to see the beginning of the X-Men and Charles Xavier’s School for the Gifted. Exploring the dynamic between Xavier and Lensherr and the split that would forever make them enemies. The creation of the X-Men and the Brotherhood. Xavier going from an upright walking individual to wheelchair bound professor. All of these would be seen and more. Read on to find out my geek opinion about the Blu ray release.

Check Out Some Screenshots Of The X-Men: First Class Blu-ray.

Calling all muties and mutie lovers! The upcoming Blu-ray release of X-Men: First Class has the comic book geek in all of us anticipating September 9th. With it still a month away, a few screenshots were dropped off to me recently. What I love more than anything else is the covers – the duality of the Magnet/Xavier dynamic. Giving fans a choice between Charles and Erik is a nice touch from 20th Century Fox. I’ll snatch up the Xavier cover because I’m a goody two shoes but other geeks might gravitate towards the dark side. The blu-ray also comes with a download code giving owners ten X-Men Digital Comics that help flesh out the First Class backstory. Toss in over two hours of special features and this is going to be a jam packed set.

For those not in the know, X-Men: First Class tells the story of Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr before they became Professor X and Magneto. In the midst of stopping a massive threat, they face a difference of opinion that puts them forever on opposing sides of the human-mutant war. The movie also details the origins of the X-Men and Magneto’s Brotherhood and most importantly, we see the actions that place Xavier in his shiny wheelchair. The next month is going to crawl by! Hit the jump and peep some pics. Let us know which side you choose in the comments while you’re at it!
