THQ surprises all with the Humble THQ Bundle! [VIDEO]

PC gamers were treated to a hella nice surprise today, THQ whipped up a Humble THQ Bundle! Included in the bundle is Metro 2033, Red Faction: Armageddon, Darksiders, Company of Heroes, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts and Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor. As with all Humble Bundles, you pay what you want and decide where your buckeroos go. All can go to THQ, the chosen charity or you can even toss it all to the Humble folks in the form of the Humble Tip.

As of right now, if you pay more than the average of $5.33, THQ will also stuff in the funtastic Saints Row The Third. Are all the dollar savings popping up in your geeky brain? The site says the games plus the included soundtracks for Saints Row, Darksiders, Red Faction and Company of Heroes will run around the $190 range so $5-6 bucks is a steal worthy of the Saints themselves!

“Armageddon” screams the preacher in the latest Metro: Last Light video. [VIDEO]

In their latest media splurge, THQ has started up “Survivor Stories” for Metro: Last Light. Now this isn’t to be confused with the yearly WWE (also a THQ license) pay-per-view, Survivor Series, Survivor Stories will tell tales of folks’ lives before and during the apocalypse. This first video takes time to hear what the preacher bellowing “Armageddon!” has to say about the beginning of the end and what his life is like now.

I always like it when promos take a slant like this, making it more “real”. We get bombarded every day by million dollar hype, now we get to experience something more gritty and live. The live action trailers and videos THQ is doing for the game makes me want to play it even more. Hit the break and peep the first of many more videos featuring the survivors in the Metro.

THQ Shuffles People and Axes Projects.

THQ has gone on a “strategic alignment” in an effort to revitalize its outlook for Q3. To that end, the company has shut down two development studios in Austraila and one in Phoenix, laying 200 people off. Hopefully there will be some room in other spots inside the publisher for those misplaced folks. THQ also decided to drop their focus on developing children’s games and movie based properties. Just when I was ready for them to pump out a new Bratz game too.

The five main studios left will still continue on their current projects with Volition smoothing out Saints Row: The Third and inSANE (with Guillermo Del Toro), THQ San Diego is still handling the WWE All-Stars franchise, Vigil is working on Darksiders 2 as well as Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online and Relic’s Space Marine is almost finished.

Kick Your Weekend Off With $2 Game Rentals From Redbox.

Oh Redbox, how addicting you are. I give you a single dollar, you spit me out a dvd for the night or I can spring for blu-ray for a buck fifty. I watch your magical movie and then I return it to any of your thousands of locations. ANY …OF… THEM.  You made renting movies a more streamlined process with online reservations and a searchable database. Now you’ve gone too far, you want two of my dollars for video game rentals? Are you mad?

I kid of course, as Redbox offering video game rentals is a smart move and one that many expected sooner than this. The company had previously dabbled in the game rental business but they are rolling out the program on a larger scale. The offerings are not extensive but they are mostly all current releases, not games from 2009 or so. L.A. Noire (PS3 only), Duke Nukem Forever, Dirt 3, and Red Faction: Armageddon are just a few examples nesting inside those wonderful machines. They even have have some Wii titles mixed in there for variety’s sake.
