Is Crystal Dynamics dusting off Soul Reaver?

If anything can take the horrid taste of the Twilight series out of vampire fans’ mouths, it would be a new Soul Reaver game. Word floating around the old internet is Crystal Dynamics is rebooting the franchise as well as going with a brand new art style. Oh yeah and Cory Balrog, co-creator of God of War might be involved! Crystal Dynamics recently hired the superstar to work on a rework of Tomb Raider and one more unannounced project. If that happens to be Soul Reaver, bleep just got real!

Soul Reaver was an offshoot of the Legacy of Kain series about vicious vampires. Raziel, the star of Soul Reaver, was on a vengeance fueled trip to murder his creator, Kain. Kain’s ego and jealousy caused him to go psychotic on Raziel, nearly wiping him out of existence. Instead of dying (again), Raziel become a wraith and must feed off of other vamps for nourishment. It was a more action oriented affair, had a few nice plot twists and was total fun. A reboot would be just the thing to spice things up for those of us tired of sparkly, emo vamps.

If the rumors are true, we could see some sort of reveal this year, maybe at E3. Bring it!

PlayStation Vita Available for Pre-Order AT Candian And U.S. Best Buys.

While the PlayStation Vita won’t release in time to be placed under Christmas trees, at least rabid portable fans can get their pre-order on at Best Buy. Both the Canadian and U.S. Best Buys have pre-order pages up for both versions of Sony’s upcoming handheld. BB Canada has committed to a release date of March 30, 2012 which would go along with the rumors we’ve heard about the launch day. They have the confirmed price points of $249.99 for the WiFi only and $299.99 for the 3G/WiFi hybrid. Anybody foaming at the mouth and chomping at the bit to drop some green on the Vita? If you do, let us know in the comments.

PlayStation Store Might Finally Be Back This Week.

If you don’t reside in Japan, Hong Kong or South Korea, you may possibly have access to the PlayStation Store and the rest Qriocity by week’s end. Sony announced that numerous security efforts were made to fully protect the infrastructure as well as the purchasing options. The first part of the restoration was the implementation of the PlayStation Network, which was customers ability to play online and access the social side of the network. Now, over two weeks later, the Store hopefully will be fully functional. If the Store does come back this week, it means gamers can finally redeem codes and start downloading the freebies from the Customer Appreciation Program, if available.

Personally, I wouldn’t hold your breath. We’ve heard many a promise from the mighty Sony regarding the return of the PSN and the PS Store. It took almost a month to get the partial return that we have and the latest rumor had the PS Store back by May 24th. I’ve been jonesing for the return so I can finally delve into the inFamous 2 beta before the game releases in a week. Many people would love to just have some sense of normalcy back to their gaming. I guess we’ll find out in a few short, painful days.

Rumor Mill: Xbox 360 Spring Update May 19th

Rumors are swirling that Microsoft will be releasing the spring update to the Xbox 360 dashboard on May 19th. Most already know about the preview program that lucky few gamers, myself included, are running through a beta test right now. Hopefully most of those features will be included but not much is actually known what this update will include.

The one prevalent rumor is Paypal functionality. What that really means is anyone’s guess. A new payment option? New ways to earn rewards? With Hulu Plus already added just over a week ago and Avatar Kinect scheduled for May 27th, this update seems a bit lacking. But then again maybe Microsoft has a giant rabbit in its hat, ready to pull out on us. We shall wait and see. Read more: Rumor Mill: Xbox 360 Spring Update May 19th
