The Black iPhone 5 Is Rumored To Scratch Easily

Today is the day many Apple fans have been waiting for, the release of the iPhone 5. When Apple unveiled the newest model of their smart phones one initial concern was the anodized aluminum used on the back and edges of the black iPhone 5. Reportedly the anodized aluminum is prone to scratching and many wondered if it would hold up to the everyday wear and tear we subject our smartphones to.

Various Internet forums are already buzzing about the issue and some users are already claiming their iPhone 5 is displaying minor blemishes with early usage. In an attempt to slim the new iPhone down, Apple abandoned the glass back which has also prompted a change to the metal band that is around the edge of the phone. It might look pretty now but early adopters of the black model are starting to notice that the “slate” coating has began to reveal a shiny silver aluminum metal that is underneath. Supposedly this has been spotted on two separate models indicating that it is not a fluke error in manufacturing.

Verizon blacking out employee vacation days at end of month, iPhone 5 imminent?

The rumors that Apple’s iPhone 5 would be launching on September 21st seem to be right on the money. Verizon has told employees that the time between September 21st and the 30th are off-limits for vacation days. Carrier vacation black outs usually signal the next big release so this definitely fits in with the rumors of the new iPhone launch. AT&T has also put a big black check mark for employees around that same time, theirs however extends farther by also taking away some time in October.

The big question is for anyone who is interested in the new shiny from Apple: are you going to wait in the ridiculous lines at AT&T, Verizon or Sprint or would you rather do your pre-ordering\shopping online and sleep in? I personally would stay away from the madness!

Sprint to entice customers with free tablets!

Eyeing yourself a new smartphone and plan on handing your monies over to Sprint? If so, then there’s an upcoming promo just for you. Starting August 12th, Big S is handing out free tablets with any smartphone purchase! That means you could grab a spiffy new Galaxy S III or an iPhone 4S or heck even some of the lower end el cheapo phones.

The tablet in question, yes there is only one offered, is the ZTE Optik which you can check out here. It’s a pretty decent slate with a 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM under that 7″ screen. Granted it is on Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) and most likely won’t get an official (hint, hint) update to Ice Cream Sandwich but thems the breaks sometimes. The tablet usually runs $99 on contract ($350 out an out) so free is a pretty tempting price point. Unknown right now is if anyone taking Sprint up on their offer will have to sign up for a data plan for their freebie, my gut says they’ll have to.

Any geeks feeling the urge to grab some new shiny devices at Sprint? Let us know after the jumpy  jump!

Siri Says The Darndest Things

Up until recently if you were to ask Siri “What is the best smart phone ever?” Siri would answer with the Nokia Lumia 900. Apple has acted fast and now the iPhone’s personal assistant will answer with iPhone 4S or something like “the one you’re holding” and “you’re kidding right?”. The non Apple reply was caused by Siri’s relying on Wolfram Alpha, which chose the Lumia 900 as best smart phone due to a catalog of four different five-star ratings. Wolfram Alpha will still offer up the Lumia 900 as answer to best smart phone if you search the service independently of Siri.

The small amount of reviews Wolfram Alpha used to determine the Nokia Lumia 900 as best smartphone is not really pushing me to abandon my iPhone but I do find it strange that Apple is dictating Siri’s answers. However I can also understand that Apple wouldn’t want the personal assistant directing their users to the competition. Siri you silly girl, thinking you could have your own opinions.
