Geeky Giveaway: Snow White and the Huntsman.

TGIF geeks! We’re here with another Geeky Giveaway, this time for the newest retelling of that classic children’s tale – Snow White. Universal Studios took the familiar tale and twisted in into a movie you definitely shouldn’t let the kiddos watch right before bed with Snow White and the Huntsman. We reviewed the movie earlier on, here’s our take if that so intrigues you. The soon to be released Blu-ray version packs in the high def feature – both theatrical and extended – the DVD copy, a downloadable digital copy and the just starting to build up momentum Ultraviolet copy. Try saying that ten times fast!

Special features for the Blu aren’t much to get excited over. We have some behind the scenes bits, the Pocket Blu ready Second Screen, a 360 degree tour of the set plus a few minor other bits. Tech connected fans might like the Second Screen, it opens up plenty of goodies on your WiFi connected smart phone or tablet with Pocket Blu installed. But we know you geeks aren’t here to listen to me drone on are you? Nope, you all are here to win some goodies so let’s get on with it!

This isn’t an ordinary giveaway, no sir, this has some swag attached to it! Besides the very shiny Blu-ray, one winner will also get a mirrored keychain, a bottle opening keychain (did someone steal this off the Huntsman?) and a set of temporary tattoos the keep the little ones busy! Can anyone resist the pull of the swag? Hit the break to get your entries in as well as peep pics of the swagtastic extras. Our friends over at Universal kindly donated all of these freebies so make sure to give them some love in the Rafflecopter! We also have a cool write-up on the scariest movie forests, give it a look-see!

The path to the fairest one leads this way….

Geek Movie Review: Snow White And The Huntsman

Months ago I saw a preview of Snow White And The Huntsman and was immediately intrigued. It’s been a favorite story of mine for as long as I can remember. This looked different, darker and hopefully not the same tired tale of a damsel in distress being rescued by a prince. Perhaps Snow White would finally break free from Disney’s repressive telling of her story.

Snow White And The Huntsman arrived in theaters this weekend and I couldn’t wait to see it. First off let me say it’s definitely not the sweet whimsical love story that it’s become associated with. Sure there’s dwarfs, fairies, a giant troll and an illusive white stag but it’s more closely comparable to Lord Of The Rings than Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs or the abomination that was Mirror Mirror. Leave the young kids at home as at times it’s scary and violent. Snow White And The Huntsman is an action movie and at heart a story of female empowerment. All in all it’s a great offering from first time director, Rupert Sanders.

Visually the movie is stunning. Colleen Atwood‘s costume design was perfection, particularly when it came to outfitting the evil queen. The special effects and CGI were not abused making the fantastical settings like the Dark Forrest realistic and believable. When Queen Ravenna talks to her mirror it’s not a generic face that talks back but rather a being of some sort that manifests from liquid gold.
