Google + Traffic Drops!

Google’s super beta social networking “Google +” somehow slowed in traffic over the last week. Experian Hitwise made a report finding that both users and traffic through the website fell last week. Experian Hitwise is a global intelligence service that monitors traffic for online sites.  Matt Tathum, an Experian rep, made sure that his findings were correct so as not to overplay the issue. The company gets their information from extrapolating data from ISPs and an opt-in panel of around 2.5 million users.

A total traffic decline of around 3% to 1.79 million over the last week ending July 23 compared to the last seven days, was the research company’s findings. Google+ ended up with 1.86 million visits the week prior. The average time on Google+ this week was down 10%, from 5 minutes and 50 seconds to 5 minutes and 15 seconds. Experian’s research methods are only for website traffic alone, which means they can only check the traffic to the website. These findings do not include mobile users and third-party application users. I was on my account last week, but it was from my phone, so they might not have been able to track my usage.

This report comes only after a steady increase in traffic since it’s launch on June 28. Only last week, comScore made a report of the network hitting 20 million unique visitors. I don’t know about you, but it seems kind of early to be slowing down. Google+ has been TESTING for one month and it has a little around 18 million users. That’s a lot, but not enough that it should be losing steam this early. Just imagine what’s going to happen when it’s open to everyone, and out of its testing version. What do you think will happen with this project? Leave your comments after the jump.

What Type of Facebooker Are You?

As I sit back and watch people connect on Facebook, it makes me start to think about what type of people use the social network to actually reconnect with friends from the past.  I think that because  Facebook is so diverse that their are many things that allow you to use the application and not actually have to talk to people.  So I have compiled my list of the people that use Facebook.  Read more after the break and let me know if I missed anyone! Myspace: Layoffs May be Imminent??

Facebook, Twitter, Four Square, Get Glue, am I missing anybody?  Well, maybe if anyone is actually using MySpace, and reports really are asking the anybody question.  With traffic getting smaller and smaller, it may seem that the end of MySpace may be coming sooner than expected.  Reports from NetworkEffect blog, MySpace may be forced to lay off up to half of its staff within the next few weeks, great way to start the New Year.  Some of its staff was given the entire week off to help cut cost and possibly being prepared for the gravest of news, you’re services are no longer required.  With an estimated over 1,100 employees employed by MySpace, this could be the end that many have speculated this past year.  So, why has MySpace gone from first to worst in the social networking world? MySpace May be Closing Down Soon??

If you can, please name the “social networking” sites you visit? You may have said Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare for a few. Did you still think of MySpace? Well, not many choose to do so, and you are not the only one. Some consider it the “beginning of social networking” and it may be calling it quits. It was stated earlier from a Fox Executive, principal owner of MySpace, that numbers have been “Neither acceptable or sustainable.”

MySpace, started by three friends, started just 7 years ago to find away for friends to keep in touch with each other overseas, state to state or from computer to computer. Needless to say that the site excelled so much that in 2005 Fox’s parent company News Corp puchased myspace parent E-Universe/Intermix media for a reported $580 million.  Allegedly $327 million of that was directly attributed to myspace. You began to see MySpace advertisements in movies, tv, web sites and of course, friend requests. However that was then, this is now. From just this year, Myspace increased their losses in the third quarter by 30% to $156 million. So why is this happening? Some would say that with Facebook and Twitter increasing in popularity, there is no space for MySpace.

Well something is causing the downfall of MySpace. It still gives users one of the most “personal” pages than the competition, but people are just not using them. I personally have a MySpace account but not have been on it over 2 years and cannot remember my username or password. It’s too bad we might see MySpace shut the doors, but in this day and age, if you’re old technology, you cease to exist. RIP MySpace, you may be missed….
