Microsoft Windows 8 Gets A Preview

Steven Sinofsky, president of Microsoft Windows, gave a keynote not to long ago about Windows 8 and it looks remarkably close to Windows Phone 7, Metro UI. You know, the tiles and stuff. One other thing is that the OS is designed for touch, it may and may not be “revolutionary,” I have a touch-screen monitor and never use it, but we will see.
A key thing about Windows 8 is there are two types of applications, those designed for a traditional desktop style and those running in a pseudo-mobile style based off HTML5 and Java. Everything, though, will be designed for touchscreen use. Don’t start freaking out, yet, mouse and keyboard are still “optional.” Multitasking has never been easier, just swipe an app to the center of the screen and you’re set. You can also “snap” windows side-by-side like you already can on Windows 7. We can’t forget the next version of Internet Explorer, 10, that is based on Silverlight, but come on, we all use Chrome, right? Other features are an app-store and integrated services, Office 365. It will run on desktops, laptops, and tablets, but I’m thinking it will only be good on tablets.
