Tekken and Injustice Beef Up Their Roster with New DLC

written by Damian Gordon November 13, 2017

Get ready for the next battle as weeb and Turtle Power unite this week as new characters have been announced for Injustice 2 and Tekken 7. Noctis and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are set for opponents to taste their steel in these latest trailers.

Injustice 2

Continuing in a series of left field choices for DLC, Injustice 2 adds the turtles to join Hellboy and Subzero in the list of guest characters.

Other characters included in the 3rd fighter pack are The Atom and Enchantress. Atom is scheduled for an early release on Dec.12th.

It’s unknown whether the turtles will work similar to Triborg in MKX, where a player picks one from the menu or the simultaneous play of the Ice Climbers from Super Smash Bros.

Tekken 7

Tekken 7 has subverted expectations by working with competitors on their games. Akuma from Street Fighter was on the original release,

Fatal Fury’s Geese Howard is set to be playable sometime next month. Now, Noctis from Final Fantasy XV joins the Iron Fist Tournament.

His trailer showed off very flashy moves similar to Tekken’s Lars and looks to primed to cause some controller-breaking combos.

Noctis might become Oddjob with his teleporting dash attacks, tournament players are going to look more upset fighting him than Tyreese on Father’s Day.

Tekken and Injustice’s newest entries, respectively, have Metacritics of 82 and 87. They’re currently at a discounted price with Black Friday around the corner, its the perfect time to jump in.

Fans are eager about what “legacy characters” will be added to the roster since mainstays like Lei Wulong, Anna Williams and Ganryu didn’t make the cut.

While the guest characters will be paid, Tekken’s original characters have been free so far DLC (except Eliza).

Producer Katsuhiro Harada’s view of DLC in 2012 hasn’t changed much as he saw characters as “chess pieces” and was “essential items necessary in the game.” In a post earlier this year, Harada said that he wouldn’t sell classic characters, citing these guest spots as the exceptions.

This generation of fighting games isn’t shy about mixing the bowl up, they’re throwing it out the window the book.
