I know what you’re thinking. “How on earth can anyone make a movie based on the game, Tetris?” I WAS WONDERING THE SAME THING! But apparently folks, it’s happening! The classic building block puzzle is set to be made as an action type movie that has an intergalactic twist. According to Yahoo,
“… a deal has been struck between Threshold Entertainment and the Tetris Company to develop a live-action version of the puzzle game in which players control a maddening series of blocks that cascade down the screen.”
Although the movie does not yet have a director, nor a cast, it has been claimed that there is a solid plot (which hasn’t been revealed yet). That might leave you skeptical, but Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff reassured Speakeasy blog,
“It’s a very big, epic sci-fi movie. This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to the geometric shapes.”
You may know of other game-to-movie adaptations produced by Kasanoff. Remember, in 1995 there was the movie Mortal Kombat which had a sequal in 1997, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Other game-to-movie adaptations have been seen such as Prince of Persia (2010) and this year, we saw Need for Speed.
What do you geeks think? Could this potentially be an awesome movie or do you think it will flop? It will be interesting to see what the writers have come up with as far as a story line. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
