Ben Affleck has truly made himself one of the biggest names in Hollywood again after a stumbling period. Both in front and behind the camera, he’s enjoyed some great success and whatever project he’s attached to regardless of role will certainly get some notice. But undoubtedly he doesn’t just put himself on to something or even make a project of his own unless he’s absolutely certain about it and 100% all in. Well that’s just not good news for those waiting on his Batman film.
The Batman is set for a release next year with production to begin sometime later this year, but that will all now depend on its co-writer/director/star Affleck. Recently speaking to The Guardian in a feature about his career and upcoming film, Live By Night, Affleck said about directing the DC Comics film, “That’s the idea. But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.”
Affleck’s words harken back to a similar statement he said to Entertainment Weekly a couple of weeks back say that he has to make sure he has something special in his hands to do the movie and that he won’t write and direct anything he doesn’t think is good enough to be made. Concluding that, “here’s not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it.”
Having said before how he doesn’t want to rush filming a movie to meet a set release date, the comments made will certainly put some worry into fans, but a delay of any kind be might be what DC needs to do since its been reported that the script for Suicide Squad was hastily written in just six weeks and the reception to that and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are no doubt factors that have gone into Affleck’s way of approaching The Batman.
What do you think of all this? Do you still want Ben Affleck to make The Batman? How hopeful are you for the future slate of DC films? Let us know in the comments below!
