Rising out of the cauldron anew, Charmed is coming back to television.
Created by Constance M. Burge and debuting back in 1998 on The WB, Charmed followed the Halliwells, a trio of sisters and powerful witches in San Francisco as they use their witchcraft to thwart off evil forces from both innocent people and their own family.
Currently in the scripting stage, the new series will be headed up Jennie Snyder Urman, creator of one of the network’s biggest shows right now, Jane the Virgin, and Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin, who are also writers on Jane.
What’s really interesting is the only plot detail we know and that’s the show will be set in 1976 rather than present day like the original series was. The new setting could mean that is a possible prequel to the original show that follows either relatives of the Halliwells or completely new characters in the same universe.
Charmed quickly gained a cult following and devoted audience when it debuted and made it another success for the show’s producer, Aaron Spelling until it ended after eight seasons in 2006. The series gained more in popularity after its series finale thanks to it being available on streaming services like Amazon and Netflix and has been officially continued on in comic books from Zenescope Entertainment.
The original stars of the show took to Twitter with their reactions towards the news.
We wish them well.
