Thirteen years. It has been thirteen years since one of the great superhero films ever premiered. Now after lots of hoping, waiting, and speculating, Incredibles 2 is here and the teaser trailer has come out. Let’s take a look below!
I know there wasn’t much to go on, but that’s not gonna stop me from buzzing about this!
The Incredibles was one of the best superhero stories ever, period. It held a love and passion for the genre and the archetypes of superheroism that it also managed to carve out its own legacy. Many find this to be the crown gem of Pixar and sometimes even I find myself saying its the best thing the studio ever did.
The Incredibles ended in a way that looked to mean we’d get a sequel. I was hoping for it not be released 14 years after the fact, but hey you take what you can get. While there have been comics and books Disney has done, fans always wanted a proper sequel and our wish is finally here. I’m excited to see the development of Jack-Jack and his powers, which came to light at the end of the original. Judging from how he’s still a baby, I’m gonna guess much time hasn’t passed from the end of the first one. Hopefully we get to see that fight with the Underminer.
Brad Bird is once again at the helm as writing and director, along with reprising Edna Mode, with Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, and Samuel L. Jackson all reprising their respective roles. Voice of Dash from last time, Spencer Fix won’t be around for round two and is being played by Huck Milner. Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener are also onboard in undisclosed roles.
The current synopsis goes as such:
Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in ‘Incredibles 2’- but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.
As for anyone wondering if the movie might touch on the advancement of superhero media since the first one, don’t hold your breath on that. Bird himself said:
I don’t think that kind of idea stays interesting for very long. For me, the interesting thing was never the superhero part of it. It was more the family dynamic, and how do superhero things play into that.
That is all good by me!
I am still just so excited for this! I’ll be at the theater come June 15, 2018.
