Our Theories For ‘Ori And The Will Of The Wisps’

Ori And The Will Of The Wisps gameplay

E3 and Microsoft blew up the stage when they finally revealed a gameplay trailer for Ori And The Will Of The Wisps. My heart melted. I adored Ori And The Blind Forest. I beat it at least thrice and I replay it almost once a year. Something about the smooth and gorgeous visuals and crazy-soothing soundtrack that just hook me hard. Not to mention, a touching story without spoken dialogue from any characters. Everything about the trailer screams magic. And while I’m sure there are new abilities that Ori will have, the trailer did offer some details that we picked up on.

So far, it looks like Naru (big bear character), Gumo (ball creature with 4 legs) and what looks like one of Kuro’s offspring (the owl). This ties nicely together with the story from the original Ori. No spoilers here, but it looks like the wee little owl creature will play a big part not only in the story, but in the gameplay as well. The trailer showed Ori riding on the owl in the air, not to mention some sequences with a minecart. Speaking of similarities to Donkey Kong from SNES, I hope there are some meaningful mechanics behind pairing up with the owl, and not just hopping on your back for a ride.

The whole fam is here!

Story-wise, Ori And The Blind Forest tugged at my heartstrings because of its similarities to the moral ambiguity and theme of Ender’s Game. Minor spoilers ahead for the first game, but to kill your enemy’s offspring and feel sorrow, then take the last offspring as one of your own to take care of it is essentially Ender’s Game. I have zero problems with this, however I’m wondering what will be the overarching theme for Ori And The Will Of The Wisps. The big creature at the end of the trailer; who is that? Doesn’t look like I’d want to take care of IT’S offspring! Too many limbs. How about that fallen willow tree after? Probably another incarnation of Sein or the spirit tree? Who knows.

One thing’s for certain, I couldn’t be more excited to play the new Ori And The Will Of The Wisps. I have no doubt Moon Studios will pull off another amazing game.

How about you geeks? Excited for the new one? Let us know in the comments!
