Square Enix has announced the release date for the supposed last entry in the rebooted Tomb Raider series, along with a snazzy new story trailer. Showing some wall climbing, jungle environments and dead stuff, looks like Lara Croft’s newest adventure will be no surprise as it’s taking players to Mayan ruins. I, for one, could always do more Mayan ruins, especially since they lend themselves better to climbing. From the news release:
“Created by a team of veteran Tomb Raider developers at Eidos-Montréal, in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics, the game will be available on September 14, 2018 for the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system and Windows PC/Steam.
In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara must master a deadly jungle, overcome terrifying tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, Lara will be forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be.
Star of the critically acclaimed 2013 Tomb Raider reboot and the award-winning Rise of the Tomb Raider, Camilla Luddington makes her return as Lara Croft with yet another stunning performance in Shadow of the Tomb Raider.”
Unfortunately no gameplay was shown, but I don’t think players have anything to be concerned with. The last 2 entries for Tomb Raider have shown gorgeous environments and stunning graphics in trailers, and have been just as beautiful in the actual release. I guess maybe after this finale, they may go work on remasters?
However, there are new screens (see below) which, to no one’s surprise, look awesome. Hopefully, there’s not more of the same, and perhaps more tombs to raid in Lara’s finale to the trilogy. The same developer of the first 2 entries, Crystal Dynamics, is returning thankfully, and the very talented Camilla Luddington will be voicing Lara Croft once again. Preorders are now open, so get your climbing axes ready for September 14th!
