That was fast. According to reports, Tom Clancy’s The Division is getting the movie makeover and it is already in development! Variety states that heading this adaptation is Jake Gyllenhaal working side by side with Ubisoft to make this a reality. He is also set to not only star in the film, but direct it as well.
The third person shooter, The Division, came to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC earlier this year. The game itself centers around a desolate New York City after a wildly spread smallpox pandemic. As an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division “The Division”, the player combats criminal activity whilst trying to piece together the puzzle of how this outbreak came to be.
Ubisoft is on a roll with their video game-to-movie adaptations. The Assassin’s Creed film is dropping this December as well as another popular video game Splinter Cell. Fans of Gyllenhaal will also know that he has taken a game character and brought them to the big screen before with his work in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
There are no real details at this time being that it is still in early stages of development, but check back with DHTG as we continue to bring you the latest and greatest in Geekdom news.
