Nathan Drake will travel to uncharted territory once again. The live action adaptation is on the fast track to production after a new director was finally announced.
The studio announced that Shawn Levy will be behind the camera for the long-delayed film. Joe Carnahan was rumored to direct the film, but has since moved on to direct Bad Boys For Life, the upcoming sequel to the Bad Boys franchise. The studio will still use Carnahan’s script for the movie, which will be produced by Arad/Atlas Entertainment Production. No release date has been set and casting has not yet started for the film.
Levy’s best known work is the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. He will have plenty to keep him busy. He will be back to direct several episodes while casting for Nathan Drake and several key and supporting roles. Levy also produced the Arrival, the upcoming film starring Man of Steel’s Amy Adams and The Avengers star Jeremy Renner.
The Uncharted series is a huge hit for Naughty Dog, who produces the video game franchise. The series centers around Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter, as he embarks on several dangerous adventures. The latest entry, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, was revered by critics and fans alike. The popularity of the game franchise made a live action movie very desirable to Sony. The studio can finally move forward with the plans, since a big piece of the puzzle has been taken care of.
What do you think, geeks? With Shawn Levy directing, are you excited for the Uncharted movie?
