Upcoming Sci-Fi and Fantasy Films That Aren’t Reboots

I liked Infinity War. It didn’t surprise me, (maybe I waited to long to see it) but I really did enjoy it. Solo: A Star Wars Story and Jurassic Park 4 are going to be a blast to watch. The reviews are already coming in for Deadpool 2 and it seems to be holding up to the expectations set by the first. I am glad there are so many good movies coming out, but I’ll say it: I’m getting burnt out from reboots. Which is why I’m so excited about all the upcoming sci-fi and fantasy movies that have nothing to do with anything else.

Upcoming Sci-Fi and Fantasy Movies

Hotel Artemis

I don’t know if this can be counted as a sci-fi movie, but I think it falls into the dystopia genre. There are riots all over L.A., it looks like the city is on fire, and the police are in some crazy high tech gear. Hotel Artemis follows a group of criminals at a hospital for crooks. They are besieged by another crime group and it looks like a floor by floor siege. The music sounds amazing and the cast is killer with Zachary Quinto, Sterling K. Brown, Dave Bautista, Jeff Goldblum and Jodie Foster all seeming to face off. Hotel Artemis comes out on June 8th, 2018.

This one has me excited. It’s not often that a young black male character gets to be running around with alien weaponry but here we are. In Kin, a young boy protects his older brother from a gang he owes money to with some kind of alien/government experiment super-weapon the younger boy found in a warehouse. The group ends up on the run from ‘aliens’?, the government, and the gang, as each group tries to get a hold of this crazy pink-blue-purple-plasma-energy shooting gun. This looks like it is going to be a ton of fun and I, personally, am a sucker for movies about family. Kin comes out August 31, 2018.

This one had me the second they showed the underwater living complex. It is probably the closest we’ll ever get to being mermaids and I want it. Anyway, The Meg is about a megalodon, a massive shark from the time of the dinosaurs, causing havoc along the Pacific Coasts. It’s like Jaws meets Deep Blue Sea and I don’t know if the world can handle that much oceanic campiness. Is it going to be cheesy, one-liner action fodder? Probably, but Jason Statham is amazing and the rest of the cast looks just as good, so I’m not worried. The Meg comes out on August 10th, 2018.

Robot Dog! ROBOT DOG! ROBOT DOG WITH JET PACKS! I really think that a robot dog with jet packs is going to be the draw for this movie. It has a lot of the same feeling that Transformers did, for better or for worse. The story seems to follow a young man who finds a military designed robot dog. The two bond and when the government wants their property back, there is a scramble by the young man and his love interest to save the A.I. dog who has learned to love from the unfeeling government agents. It looks like fun, but I wouldn’t necessarily put too much on depth in this one. A-X-L  hits theaters on August 24, 2018.

So, these are the upcoming sci-fi and fantasy movies coming out this summer. There are a bunch more coming out over the fall and winter that look just as amazing. Did you know about these? Are you interested in any? What are you going to see over the summer? Let us know.
