Valerian and the City of a Thousand Lights

The source material comics are an absolute staple of the science fiction genre. Its story carried over decades and vastly impacted both science fiction and comic books in an amazing and lasting way. In this era of comics and graphic novels making their way to the cinematic universe, there is no series more deserving than Valérian and Laureline. Some of our favorite stories have been influenced by this comic series,  including the exceptionally loved by geeks epic that is Star Wars.

Valerian will be played by Dane Dehaan, with Cara Delevingne playing the role of Laureline. Other actors noted to be in the film include John Goodman, Clive Owen, and Ethan Hawke, among others. The cinematics of the trailer are absolutely breath-taking, and the amount of diversity and detail given to the alien races is fantastic to behold:

The plot of the movie is a spectacular example of science fiction, and seems promising for a fascinating and wonderful movie experience:

In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

All in all, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets looks promising to become a science fiction epic, and possibly the first of a series. What did you think of the trailer?
