The Walking Dead Premiere’s Synopsis Has Us Fearing the Worst

Negan stands menacingly over Rick and the group as he decides who his first victim will be.

When we last saw Rick and his group, Negan was permanently removing at least one survivor from the face of the Earth. We got an amazing, chilling new teaser¬†at NYCC. It sounds like AMC isn’t done teasing the show’s rabid fan-base quite yet. The first episode of season 7, aptly titled “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” promises to have a lasting effect on anyone unlucky enough to survive the run in with Negan and Lucille.

“Last season ended with Rick and our group kneeling helplessly before Negan and his group. What Negan does will haunt those who survive forever.” This is the official synopsis for the season 7 premiere. It will only help feed speculation as to who’s meeting an untimely end in the premiere. The premiere also promises to change the entire tone of The Walking Dead’s universe for as long as the show continues to air.

For longtime fans of the show, the title of the premiere is a call-back to Rick’s last interaction with Dr. Edwin Jenner in season 1.

It would appear that things are beginning to come full circle for Rick. Although he may not be the main character in season 7, Rick will still have a huge role in progressing the story. Much like Joker is the anti-Batman, Negan is the anti-Rick. They could have very well ended up the same person had Rick handled things differently. It will be interesting to see how Robert Kirkman and the production staff handle this nuance between the two alpha-males. Let’s hope season 7 does this aspect of their relationship justice. I for one trust this crew to handle it beautifully.

The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes on AMC. Season 7 premieres on Sunday, October 23rd at 9/8c. It also stars Steven Yeun, Melissa McBride, Chandler Riggs, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Lennie James, Danai Gurira, Michael Cudlitz, Christian Serratos, and Jeffery Dean Morgan.
