Warner Bros. Thinking of Live Action Adaptation of Superman: Red Son?

written by Jordan Cobb June 27, 2017

One of the more well known Elseworlds titles of DC Comics which likes to re-imagine its superheroes in different ways, Superman: Red Son is reportedly looking at being made into a movie. Though not as the next DC animation project like many would suspect. No, Warner might make Red Son a live action affair.

Den of Geek has reported that sources close to the website have told them that Warner Bros. is look at making live action adaptation of the 2003 comic book. For those unaware of the story, Superman: Red Son is an Elseworlds comic book from DC that imagined a world where Superman was discovered and raised in the Soviet Union. Done by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Kilian Plunkett, fans have long thought that this might be done one day as an animated movie, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case.

The spark of this speculation? Twitter exchanges between Millar and Kong: Skull Island director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts.

Vogt-Roberts did reveal he had pitched the idea of a Red Son movie to Warner Bros. months previously. Millar then said he had heard Warner was looking at directors for the project.

Nothing of course is concrete right now, but the possibility of Red Son making it to the big screen could be intriguing in a way for more mainstream audiences to think of Superman in a different light and also have DC take chances with its DC Extended Universe that might certainly peak the interest of those turned off right now by the DCEU.

For those curious about the book itself, you can check it out right here!
