Widowmaker Could be Getting Nerfed Soon

Players have been enjoying Blizzard’s Overwatch for several weeks now and have gotten a chance to get a feel for the current roster of playable heroes. The fan base has also been able to get a sense off who is overpowered and who might need a buff. Recently an announcement was made that the development team were addressing concerns of two characters: McCree who was a little too overpowered and D.Va who was deemed underpowered and in need of a buff.

These are not the only characters the development team is looking into addressing. In a battle.net forum post earlier this week, Jeff Kaplan who is a Game Director at Blizzard, announced that Widowmaker was also being looked into.

“Widowmaker is on our radar. We are discussing her. We have some internal experiments going to see if we can keep her viable while lowering the frustration threshold a little bit. Right now, this is just exploration. If something more comes of it, we’ll let you know.”

The defensive sniper hero can sometimes be a complete game changer. Players found that the her sniper rifle shots recharge too quickly, they also cause large amounts of damage regardless of how charged the shot is. Additionally, Widowmaker’s assault rifle is very strong and could square up against Soldier 76. Not to mention, her ultimate “Infra-Sight” gives the sniper and her team the ability to see opposing team players through walls for a period of time.

At this time, it is unknown how Blizzard will address the issue of Widowmaker being overpowered. Possible thoughts are increasing the recharge time on her sniper, decreasing the damage or rate of fire on her assault rifle. Possibly decreasing the time or range of her ultimate. Only time will tell at this point what they plan to address.
