Six years. Six. Entire. Years. That’s how long I’ve been waiting to get my greedy hands on The Winds of Winter, which is the next installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series. If you are unaware of what that is, it is the series of novels written by George R.R. Martin that the hit HBO series Game of Thrones is based upon.
But will the book ever be finished? Will we ever get to read what happens to Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaren, or will we be left with a series only ever completed on the silver screen? There is a small sliver of hope that the novel will be finished in 2017.
According to Time, a Live Journal comment George R.R. Martin made stated, “Not done yet, but I’ve made progress, but not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year)”.
Not much hope, but just enough to keep us stringing along.
The HBO series, in contrast, isn’t keeping us waiting. Earlier this week, a teaser trailer was released, titled “The Long Walk”.
It is truly a teaser, focusing on Jon Snow, Danaerys, and Cersei, each on their long walk to their various ‘thrones’. From my perspective, it implies a show down- the King of the North, Mother of Dragons, and Mad Queen poised and ready to win the Game of Thrones. But with Cersei’s breath and a blue eye in a white face, we’re reminded of one simple fact- Winter is Coming.
So, do you think we’ll ever get to read The Winds of Winter? What are your predictions for the seventh season of Game of Thrones? Who will George R.R. Martin kill off next? Let us know what you think in the comments!
