WipEout Returns With Omega Collection on PS4

WipEout Title

Nintendo has Mario Kart, Microsoft has Forza, and now Sony’s resurrecting their classic, high-speed racer WipEout. In the WipEout Omega Collection Sony has combined, for the first time ever, all the tracks from three games in the series; WipEout HD, WipEout HD Fury, and WipEout 2048. The remaster, which is out June 6th for $39.99, boasts several enhancements. The game is targeting 1080p on PS4, and dynamic 4k on the Pro. Both versions are going to run at 60FPS, making the game fast and buttery smooth.

That’s one sexy looking game!

According to Sony, the PS4 Pro version will be far superior to the standard PS4 edition. While both versions contain high-quality, reworked textures— Sony even claims you’ll be able to read the tiny text on the ships— the PS4 Pro version will allegedly be able to render 4 times as much detail than the standard PS4 version. All that extra detail in the Pro version will appear in 4K with HDR support, making it more likely your eyes will bleed from all those shiny graphics.

But, it’s not just the graphics that are getting an update. The sound effects have been remastered as well. They’ve also included over 28 licensed songs from the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy. You’ll be able to listen to all those tunes while playing one of the games 9 modes. There are the standard time trials, career mode, and tournaments among others. Players will also be able to modify races in the “racebox” mode.

The Omega Collection has both local and online multiplayer, the latter allowing up to 8 players to join in. You can pre-order it now on the PlayStation Store. It’s odd however that on the site Sony says the game will be out June 6th, while the store listed it as coming December 31st of this year. I’m sure that’s just a placeholder.
