Bravo, DC Comics and Warner Bros., Wonder Woman has taken the box office and reviewers hearts by storm. On top of that they have also achieved something that Marvel Studios is still yet to do by having the first successful female lead superhero movie. I bet that Black Widow solo outing doesn’t seem so implausible now huh?
There was a lot riding on the success of this one. Many were worried about the lack of marketing in the lead up to its release and folk naively leapt to the conclusion that studio confidence was low following the less than favorable opinions regarding Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. To rival Deadpool‘s R-rated funnies, Suicide Squad was plunged into reshoots to try to inject some last-minute comedy to help liven up the script. Unfortunately ,it did more harm than good and the end result was a very untidy and unfocused final cut.
The good thing is that Wonder Woman kicks ass. It also puts the DCEU back on the right track.
So what happens now?
Well, apart from Aquaman, not too much. Justice League is up next and with Zack Snyder stepping down following his personal tragedy, Joss Whedon will oversee the final stages of post production and subsequent reshoots. The interesting part to the story comes from Warner Bros. themselves. Forbes writer Mark Hughes suggests he knows exactly what the WB plan to do (or not do) next.
The studio wants to see how Justice League turns out, before they barrel ahead with multiple more films every year. More films will get made, don’t worry, but it makes sense to ease off the gas a little and be certain about the best route ahead.
You can’t blame them can you? After a few years of mixed reviews vs Marvel Studios’ constant success, I’d sure want to play it safe too. What do you think about the future of the DCEU? Destined to fail or looking up, up and away? Let us know in the comments below!
I truly hope they give Marvel a run for their money. After seeing Wonder Woman, they deserve it!
