Wonder Woman is queer, according to her longtime writer Greg Rucka in an exclusive interview. After this groundbreaking news hit the internet on September 28, 2016, comicbook and movie fans have reacted in various ways. In all the noise, one individual whose opinion certainly carries a considerable amount of weight is Diana Prince herself, Gal Gadot.
Since being cast as Wonder Woman, Gadot has been an excellent representation of the strength, character, and beauty of the iconic heroine. She arguably stole the show and lit up an otherwise dark Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Filming of the Amazon’s solo movie wrapped in May, and the release is slated for June 2, 2017. So, Gadot is making the rounds to promote it.
Recently, in an interview with Variety, Gadot opened up about the film. She spoke about Wonder Woman’s appeal, and Rucka’s assertion that Wonder Woman is equally attracted to men and women.
“It’s not something we’ve explored. It never came to the table, but when you talk theoretically about all the women on Themyscira and how many years she was there, then what he said makes sense. In this movie she does not experience any bisexual relationships. But it’s not about that. She’s a woman who loves people for who they are. She can be bisexual. She loves people for their hearts.”
The idea that Diana is representative of all the people of Themyscira, and would therefore love all people regardless of gender, seems to be shared by both Gadot and Rucka. According to Rucka, Wonder Woman’s paradisal home would not be spoiled or corrupted by prejudices or boundaries on love and sexuality. All that being said, Chris Pine does play Diana’s male love interest in the upcoming Wonder Woman film.
What do you think? Will we someday see her romantically involved with a woman on the big screen? Let us know in the comments!
