When releasing a new product there are many no-nos in marketing and advertising. Many companies will try to push one of these or stretch the rules to the fullest they can but then there are those that just obliterate logic and reasoning and hope it works. The mobile phone maker OnePlus has done that yet again with its latest marketing stunt.
OnePlus has announced its latest marketing stunt called “Ladies First” which allows the ladies out there wanting a OnePlus device to jump and skip right past the line of people wanting invites. How do these women do this? By posting pictures of themselves with creative ways of holding the OnePlus logo. Then people of the world get to vote and decide who gets to win (wasn’t this called Hot or Not?). You can guess how this is going to go. If you glance over at their feed it is now filled with half-naked women, photo-shopped pics, and sexist remarks. What did they think was going to happen? If your T&C’s require “no nudity please” then you are probably doing something wrong.
Check out the screenshot from Droid-Life to see what OnePlus actually posted as I am sure they will be editing most of it out at some point.
I have given up on this device quite awhile back. I was very stoked when they were announcing it and they had someone ready to purchase as soon as it was available and I know I was not the only one. Time and time again they have launched these quirky marketing and advertising stunts that just ended up putting a bad taste in my mouth and changed my mind on the company and device. This stunt has only done that more. Why couldn’t they just make plenty of the devices to meet expectations then release the phone followed by selling the phone like crazy because of its great specs and price. But who I am and what do I know? Any ladies out there willing to comment on how this makes you feel? Guys what do you think? Let us know in the comments.
