Last night’s Switch presentation hit all the right notes. All the rumors were put to bed and we finally got legit information. Of course new consoles are about more than tech specs and fancy new controllers, they’re also about games. Nintendo didn’t disappoint in this regard, at least for the Nintendo faithful anyhow. At the end of the show Nintendo dropped the big one; Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be a launch title for the Switch on March 3rd. It will also be released for Wii U the same day.
That’s right, contrary to the original rumor, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will in fact be a Switch launch title. Along with the news, Nintendo released a brand new, very emotional, and fully voice acted (!) trailer for the game. In the video we see new characters, some of the mechanical beast attacking Hyrule like something out of Attack on Titan, and a very chatty Zelda. Check it out below.
Until now all the trailers have focused on the mechanics of the game. This is the first one that gives us a glimpse of the story beyond Link waking up after a long slumber. I thought, as I am sure many of you did, that the voice acting in a LoZ game would seem awkward, but surprisingly it doesn’t. It works well and adds and emotional weight that has never been present in any Legend of Zelda game previously. I am very much looking forward to how it plays out in the final game.
Also, the Master Sword!
What do you geeks think of the trailer? Are you a fan of the voice work? Will you be picking this up for the Switch or Wii U? Are you skipping this one? Let us know in the comments below, and stick with DHTG for more on the Switch and its games!
