Something fishy is abound. Catfish: The TV Show has been put on hiatus during an investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against host Nev Schulman. MTV reports that they take these claims seriously. The show has been on the air for seven seasons and assists people who developed relationships over the internet that seek to verify the other person’s identity. The allegations come from someone who appeared on the show back in 2015.
“We take these allegations very seriously. We’re working with Critical Content, our third-party production company, to conduct a thorough investigation, and we’ve put a pause on shooting until the investigation is completed.”
– MTV Spokesperson
Catfish: The TV Show stems from a 2010 documentary that followed Nev Schulman who was catfished himself. Nev was catfished on Facebook by a woman who had used a fake name and someone else’s pictures. Being a Catfish is becoming more and more present everyday. The internet makes it easier to be someone we aren’t, and until someone develops Fibstr, we have to be cautious who we talk to. I have been catfished multiple times myself, and it makes it very hard for me to trust what people tell me about themselves.
Ayissha Morgan claims in a YouTube video that she was sexually harassed by “the main person” on the show, who she refers to as “Jack”. Ayissha, who is openly gay, alleges “Jack” questioned her sexuality and hit on her for hours. Ayissha recounts in one of the videos that “Jack” thinks she hadn’t met the right guy, asks if she finds him attractive and if she ever had sex with a guy. When Ayissha replied “no” to these questions, “Jack” allegedly replied with,”Well I think you should try it, I have a big dick, I would tear your ass up.”
Ayissha said she would post a second video if the first one reached 500 likes. When it did, a second video was released in which Ms. Morgan shares sexual-miscounduct allegations against a female production assistant she referred to as “Carol”. Ayissha claims “Carol” got her drunk and took advantage of her in her hotel room.
Nev Schulman denies these allegations and released this statement through his publicist:
“The behavior described in this video did not happen and I’m fortunate that there are a number of former colleagues who were present during this time period who are willing to speak up with the truth. I have always been transparent about my life and would always take responsibility for my actions—but these claims are false.”
