Borderlands 3 Release Date Rumors Coming Out!

Borderlands 2, the predecessor to Borderlands 3

There’s lots of rumors and details that have subtly been revealed over the last several years, but one recent earnings call for TakeTwo has revealed around the period when they are expecting to launch their next big release, most likely Borderlands 3.

Some details allude to the next Borderlands being called Borderlands 4, mocking the industry’s way of numbering titles, while official channels are saying that 2018-2019 will be a release window for a “highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises”. Randy Pitchford said earlier this year:

“I could write it out now precisely and specifically that ‘Borderlands 3’ will not be at E3 and many of you will choose not to believe it. Many of you will find a way to interpret the intent to suit what you want to believe regardless of what is true. It feels as if ‘Borderlands 3’ may be destined to be the next Half-Life 3 in that regard,”

Now despite those comments, Walmart leaked some games and release windows and such in May that Bethesda even ‘congratulated’ this past E3 cheekily. Borderlands 3 was on that list of leaks.

Now, Pitchford already confirmed at PAX 2016 that Borderlands 3 IS being worked on, however all details have been cryptic. He has been known to tweet out teasers about the number 3, in addition to the graffiti and other details about new areas in the universe for future games in Battleborn.

Myself, I did not play Borderlands 1, however I was enthralled by 2. Absolutely polished and delightfully addictive gameplay loop of killing and looting. Borderlands 3 is going to have a lot of expectations and a vault-ton of hype to live up to. Whether they can pull it off or not, remains to be seen. My guess is with all the E3 announcements and release dates already set for the fall, I think TakeTwo will wait for the very early 2019 for releasing Borderlands 3, as to not compete with Fallout 76. If that’s the case, it’s probably for the better.

What about you geeks? Excited for another co-op romp-fest in the weird and strange world of Borderlands? Are you hoping for a 2018 or 2019 release? Sound off in the comments!
