After almost 10 years, Zombieland is ready to return to the big screens! And what’s more, Sony Pictures are bringing back the original 2009 cast! That’s including Emma Stone (Wichita), Woody Harrelson (Tallahassee) (my personal favourite), Jesse Eisenberg (Columbus) and Abigail Breslin (Little Rock)!
And yes, I know, there have been many rumours about Zombieland 2 being released over the years, but this time Sony actually means it! The film is set to begin filming in January, and will supposedly be released next October (2019)! Just in time for their 10th Anniversary!
In case you are not aware of what Zombieland is here’s a “short” version of the plot if you will. Zombieland is a comedy/horror movie, set in a post-apocalyptic zombie world. The movie follows the path of four different strangers, who meet and bond while trying to find their way to Los Angeles where there is a rumoured ‘safe haven’.
This time, the movie will yet again focus on our favourite Zombie slayers, as they’ll have to face off against new kinds of evolved zombies!
Ruben Fleischer, the man behind Sony’s Venom movie, will be the one to sit in the director’s chair. Don’t forget; he is the one who directed the original Zombieland!
As for the writers, Paul Wernich and Rhett Reese who wrote the original Zombieland will be returning! You may also recognise their names, since, you know… They are the writers behind the very successful Deadpool franchise! Also returning to Zombieland as a producer is Gavin Polone.
The original movie had a budget of only $24 million and ended up making a total of $102.3 million worldwide. Sony, however, might have to up the budget a little bit, since most of the actors became Academy Award nominees! (Emma Stone with La La Land, Breslin with Little Miss Sunshine). We’ve also seen Harrelson and Eisenberg in the Now You See Me franchises; which made around $351 million worldwide.
