If you are a gamer, you’ve probably heard that Hollywood is doing a movie adaptation of Monster Hunter. It has now been announced that Milla Jovovich is joining the film.

The film was announced back in 2016 and it reunites director Paul W.S. Anderson, producer Jeremy Bolt, and now Milla Jovovich, who all previously worked together on another video game into movie adaptation you might’ve heard of: Resident Evil.

For those who don’t know, Monster Hunter is an action role-playing game in which the player goes through training missions and quests, hunting and killing — you guessed it — monsters. The players are rewarded with items, including monster parts, that are then used to create equipment like weapons and armor. Not only can this be played alone, there are also online options for cooperative play.

So how are they going to turn this into a movie? According to an interview from November 2016, Bolt and Anderson have a plan. Bolt said,

It’s a different…where Resident Evil is sci-fi/horror/action, this is a PG-13 action/adventure. We’re excited about going to a slightly different genre. As Paul said the game is a bit of Star Wars, a bit of Lord Of The Rings, it’s a little more fantasy. We’ve found a way of connecting the Dune-like sand covered world of Monster Hunter with our world. So we’re bringing this massive Japanese game into the world of America.”

In the same interview, Anderson added,

The central characters are very relatable American characters… It’s about a normal American who gets dragged into this parallel world, this Monster Hunter world. Then eventually the parallel world ends up coming to our world. So you have the creatures from the Monster Hunter world invading our world.”

After watching Milla kill so many zombies throughout the Resident Evil movies, it is hard to think of Milla and “normal” in the same sentence. Now her joining up with Bolt and Anderson may not be as exciting for some as, despite having six movies in the Resident Evil series, there have been mixed reviews of the film. I, for one, will give any video game to movie adaptation a chance, especially if I get to see Milla Jovovich in action. Monster Hunter is set to start filming in September in South Africa.

What do you think? What do you hope to see in the Monster Hunter film? Are you looking forward to it? Tell us in the comments!
