With very little fanfare, the official trailer for Mission Impossible: Fallout dropped early last week. Looks like Ethan Hunt, and crew, are about to go rogue and as always, the film looks set to live up to the franchise’s violently explosive mission statement.
Official Trailer For Mission Impossible: Fallout
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) are back. Some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) return to join the hunt.
After a mission goes very wrong, the team must race against time to set things right. But this time, they’re up against more than just a “bad guy.” Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby join the spy games with no intention of handling things the IMF way.
The hallmark of this franchise is life-threatening stunts, dangerous doings, scathing sarcasm and plenty of physicality to the fight sequences. With filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm, there’s little doubt there’ll be plenty of crash/bang/pow to satisfy audiences.
Although it’s standard practice to release several trailers in advance of a film’s release I do my best to avoid most of them. When I don’t know much about a project, a trailer is helpful. Plus, I like a good tease. But lately, trailers give away the entire film to come. It’s counter-productive. I understand trying to interest viewers enough to get a ticket purchase, but what’s left to enjoy or talk about if the trailer gives up all the good stuff.
I love Mission Impossible movies. This spycraft franchise is always my summer jam. The action is always on point, the dialogue frequently has the actors making fun of themselves and genre tropes. The female characters have gained depth and dimension and leveled up to being true badasses in their own right over the years. There’s humor, irony, and plenty of violence to go around.
After watching this trailer I’m seriously wondering, what’s left to see? I suppose we’ll find out July 27, 2018.
