Can’t wait until the Blu-ray and digital HD releases of the “worst heroes ever”? Yup, me neither. Suicide Squad’s Facebook and Warner Brothers’ YouTube dropped this little gem of a video to help tide us over.
How cool is it to be in the middle of the action with Harley, Deadshot, and the rest of Task Force X? Even though this clip is relatively short, it really opens up the possibilities for full-length films to be released in VR. The library of content has exploded in the past year or so, as virtual reality becomes more mainstream. Kudos to the studio for taking advantage of this growing area of tech!
Say what you will about the quality of the film itself, Suicide Squad has had one of the very best marketing campaigns in recent years. DC and WB have taken full advantage of merchandising, and put together amazing trailers and TV spots. The hype has never been more real. With the upcoming Extended Cut coming up, the hype train continues on.
VR is definitely my new favourite thing. You can find me spinning around in my desk chair with my headset on several times a week. If all these tech companies investing so much money into this developing tech isn’t enough to catch your attention, what are you waiting for? Yes, watching one of these 360 videos on Facebook or YouTube is fun on your phone. Trust me, it is so much better on a VR device. Why not grab a Samsung Gear VR (powered by Oculus) or Google’s new Daydream View headset? Hell, if you don’t want to drop $100 on some tech that is so rapidly evolving and improving, you can pick up any of the inexpensive Cardboard options. My personal favourite cheap VR headset is the simple View-Master by Mattel. Throw out the starter slides it comes with, and pop in your phone. You won’t regret it!
