There was a time when the Terminator franchise got people excited, but lately it’s gotten fans time traveling back to when they last found it exciting.

Terminator has been around for over three decades and has more or less stuck to the basics of what made it big, robots travel through time to kill the leader of the resistance against them, John Connor. There have been other elements and variations of it throughout many mediums (and many confusing timelines), but the latest two films, Salvation and Genisys have not really helped out James Cameron’s creation. Genisys especially since the reaction to it helped kill the planned sequels that would’ve helped start a brand new film trilogy.

One German animator seems to think there is a new direction the series can go. Bruce Stirling John Knox has created an animated trailer to pitch a brand new film in the Terminator series titled, Extermination. The trailer present a much darker story in the series where Skynet appears to be defeated, yet the surviving robots have becomeĀ more dangerous robots than before and the Resistance taking up a drastic matter in the battle by exterminating a portion of the human race to combat the robots since they know the robots will shut down once all human life has ceased. Take a look at it for yourself.

Fan films are hugely popular online, but Knox wants to make this into a fully-fledged movie. What’s presented seems to take the series back to it roots from the beginning, but also move it forward with a brand new, interesting idea. Also this very well could be a fully animated film, which given what was just displayed, could be very cool to watch.

What did you think of this? Would you want to see this as a feature length feature film? What are your thoughts on the current Terminator franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
