Calling Star Wars Fans! Lucasfilm Announces 2018 Fan Awards

written by Laura Mechem July 10, 2018
The Star Wars Fan Awards will celebrate groups of Star Wars cisplayers such as this one.

The Star Wars community is in need of a little love and unity at the moment. What better way to celebrate the best of Star Wars fandom than with a revamped Star Wars Fan Awards? This week Lucasfilm have announced the 2018 awards and promises fans that it will be the ‘ultimate celebration of Star Wars fan creativity’. The announcement, made on StarWars.com, speaks of how the fan awards will honor the many ways fans express their love for the galaxy far, far away.

Fan Awards? This Sounds Familiar…

Lucasfilm has been running the Star Wars Fan Film Awards for eight years. The awards have previously celebrated the best of fan-made short films, animation, comedy and non-fiction. In a timely development, the awards took a break last year to be re-branded as a more all-encompassing fan awards for 2018. Now this is timely, of course, because the Star Wars fan base has never felt so fractious and divided. Is Lucasfilm using the awards as a way of bringing back the fans’ love of the franchise?
