Hear that clicking noise? If you’re a horror/sci-fi fan, you know what that means. That’s the trademark sound of the Predator! Get ready, because he’s returning this fall for the fourth installment (not counting AVP, but hopefully nobody counts those) in the series. Check out the new trailer for The Predator!
Some Initial Thoughts on ‘The Predator’
In the tradition of all Predator movies, this one features an ensemble cast. The cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Jacob Tremblay, Sterling K. Brown, and Alfie Allen. That’s a damn impressive list. It’s also worth noting that the director is a Predator veteran. Shane Black (Iron Man 3) had a supporting role in the 1987 film. Another nice detail is that Jake Busey, son of Gary Busey, will star as the son of his father’s character from the original film.
The trailer doesn’t give away many plot details, though. A boy (Tremblay) receives a mysterious package. He opens it and plays with the contents as if they’re toys, accidentally calling the Predators back to earth. And they’re not the same Predators as in 1987. They’ve been upgraded, according to Olivia Munn’s character. They’ve upgraded themselves using the DNA of other species they’ve hunted. Of course they have. In the spirit of the original, the core crew of characters are soldiers. It looks like Boyd Holbrook and his team saw something they shouldn’t have while on a mission.
The effects, much like the alien itself, have been upgraded since 1987, but it looks as though Shane Black has done his best to recapture the feel of the original. While most horror films are very dark visually, the original predator was fairly bright by comparison. The Predator continues that tradition, which is nice. It’s refreshing to see a bright, daytime horror film. The movie is releasing on September 14th, just in time for the Halloween season.
