Sick tat scores fan a free year of Netflix.

How much do you think the above tattoo cost Twitter user TheRealMyron? $50? $30? A case of beer and a pack of gum? Probably not much by looking at the quality of the ink but it did score him a free year of Netflix for his extreme dedication. He jokingly asked to be put in a commercial but the Netflix Twitter account sent him over a free year subscription instead. It seems other Netflix twitter fans took Myron to task for his “work of art” but does he care? Nope because he got himself a free year!

I certainly love my Netflix, even though I wish they’d get in shape on Pawn Stars, but I can’t imagine letting my drunk buddy rake my skin like that. Enjoy your year friend, put that free money towards a better tat!

Geeky Gadget Review: Galaxy Note 2

img_06

I’m a lover of my Gen 1 Note. The bigger screen makes movie watching and game playing awesome and much easier on the eyes. The S-Pen comes in handy when my fat fingers can’t hit the right spot and the screen cap features make Facebook sharing more fun. I have no problems with the bigger size, I find a pocket to slip it in just fine – even with a case.

When Samsung gave me a chance to take the Note 2 out for a test drive, I was obviously more than enthused. Because they sent a CDMA Sprint model over, sadly I wasn’t able to make it my daily driver (Sprint has poor service in my area). I decided to use the Note 2 as a more “fun” device, playing games, watching Netflix, etc. I wanted to see if the device could be more than just a top of the line cell phone, I wanted to have fun with it.

The first thing I did was download Grand Theft Auto III for the Note 2. The extra .2″ in the 5.5″ wasn’t really noticeable, it was pretty much like playing it on my Note. Not to say playing GTA III on a 5″ screen isn’t fun, I don’t see the extra in the screen dimensions. The HD Super AMOLED screen is still bright and beautiful and worth the investment. I played the usual rounds of Star Wars Angry Birds ans Plants vs Zombies – same fun factor.

Geeky Gadget Review and Giveaway: Felix Two Hands and Monkey Do stands.

twohands

With the explosion in popularity of the tablet market, tablet stands are starting to swarm the shelves. Makes sense really, I mean who wants to hold one of those puppies through a whole movie or to skim through email? I recently sat down with a couple new stand from accessory designer Felix – the Two Hands and the Monkey Do.

Both products are meant to accomplish the same thing but do it different ways. The Monkey Do is a fairly monkey shaped stand with two out stretched arms to hold your device. It has bent “legs” and feet so the tablet nests comfortably at a slight viewing angle. The Two Hands is a simpler design, it looks like an elongated chip bag clip with hands. Squeeze the end to open up the hands and let them close back down on your device.

The Fanhattan Project

I’m constantly looking for new apps to enhance my iPhone or iPad experience. Today I came across a gem designed to make your entertainment apps such as Netflix and Hulu Plus accessible from one app. It’s called Fanhattan and is available for free on Apple’s App Store.

Search for a movie or tv show in Fanhattan and it will bring up various choices for your viewing pleasure. For instance type in “The X Files” and Fanhattan will deliver results in both the movie and tv categories. Click on the tab of which one you would like to watch and you are presented with various options of where you can watch it like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video. If you select Netflix and have a membership to the service Fanhattan will open the Netflix App and head directly to all 202 episodes of The X Files that Netflix has to offer.

You can also set up a watchlist that allows you to add shows and movies. Fanhattan will send you an alert when it’s available to watch. Once you receive the alert you can watch it immediately or save it for later.

Fanhattan also offers access to HBO GO, iTunes, Cinemax, Crackle and YouTube amongst others and is available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch with iOS 4.3 or later. Read more: The Fanhattan Project
