If you are a Whovian, you are used to change. Every so often we get a new doctor who gets a new sonic screwdriver and, eventually, a new companion. Now, with the thirteenth doctor not only does she get a new outfit (which is also the norm for new Doctors; it’s not just because she’s a female!) and the previously mentioned things, but she also gets a new theme song.
That’s right. The song of our people will be changing. We already knew that the thirteenth doctor would lead us into a season of change. She’s the first female doctor, she will have not one but two companions and there are new writers. But now, the BBC has announced that this season’s song will be composed by Segun Akinola.
According to the BBC, Akinola’s work on Black and British: A Forgotten History caught Chris Chibnall’s ear. Chibnall said,
Welcome to the Doctor Who family, Segun Akinola! We’re over the moon Segun’s agreed to join us, to provide the score for the next phase of the Doctor Who adventure. From our very first conversations, it was obvious Segun was a passionate, collaborative and delightful human being as well as a fantastic and bold composer. We’re looking forward to introducing the world to his exciting and emotional soundtracks for the Thirteenth Doctor.”
Akinola is excited to share his work with the fandom. He tweeted:
Thank you all for the warm welcome! I am beyond thrilled to be part of the #DoctorWho family as series composer and am excited about this next chapter in @bbcdoctorwho. Read more info here: https://t.co/o1XHpliwXt #composer pic.twitter.com/iGTozPll2w

We have no other information yet about the new theme song, but that just helps to build the suspense, right? I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go and listen to Akinola’s work to see if I could imagine what the new song might sound like.
Does this make you even more eager to go on a new journey with the Doctor in October? Is it too much change? Tell us in the comments!
