By the time you read this article, you may already be able to purchase the Alcatel 1X. On the surface, this phone probably wouldn’t get a lot of coverage. It is very much an entry-level phone that carries a very impressive price tag. If you live in the US though, this is the very first phone you will be able to buy that comes with Android Oreo Go pre-installed. If you would like to learn more about Android Go, you can read our article here.

Alcatel 1X Specs

This is going to get the same treatment as any other phone I do a write up on. While you are reading these specs please keep in mind this phone comes in at just a shade under $100!

  • 5.3″ Display (18:9 480×960)
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB Storage (support for up to 32GB MicroSD Card)
  • MediaTek MT6739
  • 8MP Rear Camera
  • 5MP Front-facing camera
  • 2460mAh Battery

For $100, this phone should get the job done. Coupled with Android Go, you should have better performance than any other phone with similar specs. If it does, that would really make a case for having Android Go on these entry-level smartphones.

Design

Judging from the pictures, this phone looks like it is made out of plastic and it looks to have a very sleek profile. Outside of that it really does seem to fall in line with most of the design cues from other smartphones. Something to note that I really wouldn’t expect to see on a phone in this price range, is a fingerprint sensor. Even better, it’s in the perfect position, below the camera on the back of the device. I would be very interested to see how well that sensor is implemented. Will it recognize quickly and accurately?

Who is this for?

This could be a great phone for people that are a bit older, or just don’t care too much about tech.¬† If you’ve been on the fence about getting your 10-year-old a cell phone, this could make perfect sense. Or if you are just looking for a backup phone and you can’t afford to replace that newly acquired¬†LG G7 ThinQ. If this phone fits the bill, you can buy it here:

My Mom has a prepaid phone and I think this would be perfect for her. She’s always complaining about how slow her current phone is. If Android Go lives up to its billing, this should fix that problem. Will you be getting the Alcatel 1X? If you do, will you be getting it for yourself? Or a loved one? Let us know in the comments if this Alcatel phone intrigues you!
