Back in April, Hollywood Reporter announced that Amazon had won the rights to the Lord of the Rings property. The main focus of season 1 was just announced. It looks like Aragorn, the ranger from the North, is going to be the focus of the first season. It will not be the adult Aragorn however, but young Aragorn, who will be the focus of the show.
TheOneRing.net, a fan site that is known for being on top of anything Lord of the Rings related, confirmed it on Twitter on Wednesday. It is said that the new series will not focus on the War of the Ring, but the Appendices, which fill much of the rest of the world and history of Middle Earth.

The lore in the appdendices is deep and the stories of Aragorn are intense. He grew up in a land that was destabilized and had his identity as rightful heir to the kingdom of Gondor hidden from him. It would allow for the introduction of well-loved characters, like Elrond’s twin sons Elladan and Elrohir. We’ll get to see the beginnings of the love between Aragorn and Arwen. Will we see the hunt for Gollum? It is the end of the appendices, so it is possible.
The show may even help with the often repeated complaint of not enough women in the series. Gilraen, Aragorn’s mother, hid him and protected him, living with the fear of assassins his whole life. She is also who introduces him to the elves of Rivendell. How will she be portrayed? Aragorn’s infatuation with Arwen begins the moment he sets eyes on her. How is she going to react to some random ranger who starts following her with googly eyes? Has she always been the regal being she is in the movies, or is she more of a spitfire?
The upcoming series is going to be at least five seasons long, per Amazon’s contract for the rights, and when all is said and done, it is expected to cost upwards of $1 billion. Who do you think is going to be cast as young Aragorn? Who else do you think we’ll see in the series? Let us know in the comments!
