Fortnite‘s new season has crash landed into a lot of gamer’s consoles and PC’s. With Season Four of Fortnite‘s Battle Royale comes a new Battle Pass that has tiers and tiers of wonderful things to unlock, and new alterations to the map we’ve all come to know so well. The comet that appeared in the sky midway through season three has finally come crashing down, and it didn’t land where people thought it was going to.
The map has a new location: Dusty Divot. Yes, the comet landed on the old Dusty Depot, not Tilted Towers. I mean, why would you destroy the most popular landing location in the game? Tilted Towers did not go completely untouched though. A smaller impact crater is in now sitting in the middle of one of the towers.
At the new crash zones are Hop Rocks, small bluish-purple crystals that enhance your ability to jump. Hop Rocks will only last for a limited time, so watch where you jump. There are other small impact sites around the map as well. There is a brand new named area on the northeastern part of the map called Risky Reels, previously the unpopular drive-in movie theater. I don’t expect Dusty Divot to remain a divot for the entire season. There is a pop-up military base in the center of the crater.
This season’s theme is Superheroes. There will be 100 tiers of new items to unlock via the Battle Pass. New skins that can be unlocked have a superhero/supervillain feel, and they seem more like original creations and not just ripoffs of superheroes from comic books and movies we have come to know well. Other unlockable goodies include gliders, pickaxes, emotes, and other cosmetic items. This superhero theme does tie into Fortnite‘s Save the World game mode with new quests. Save the World is the paid player versus environment game mode that most people now forget exists within Fortnite.
You can pick up Battle Pass for 950 V-bucks (in-game currency), unlocking the weekly challenges and two of the new skins. If you have a little more money and want a head start on the rewards, you can purchase the Battle Bundle for 2800 V-bucks. The Battle Bundle includes access to the Battle Pass and instantly unlocks 25 tiers. The owners of the season three Battle Pass will get a small head start of a couple tiers, just like last season.
Season four of Fortnite‘s Battle Royale will run for 10 weeks. There are other updates to the game that are available in the patch notes listed here.
