Not satisfied with merely a remake, Final Fantasy 7 has found another way to siphon money from nostalgic fans. Full disclosure: I am part of this fan base. Now available for pre-order at Merchoid, the description for Monopoly’s take on Final Fantasy 7 reads as such:
“Delve into the evolving city of Midgar in search of the latest business opportunities. Perhaps you’ll buy up a string of plots for housing development for the people, or go industrial and build a Mako reactor plant.”
Not many other details, not even the tokens, have been shown. Even the box art is “subject to change.” But it’s safe to bet the Gold Saucer, Materia, and other iconic Final Fantasy 7 objects and locations will be on the board in some way.
For those who don’t know, Merchoid has been in business since 2007 and everything they make is officially licensed. The array of geeky items they offer is staggering, and they come from all corners of our world. From Legend of Zelda coffee mugs and Marvel tablet cases, to some really nice Suicide Squad shirts and an Alien Facehugger Plush, Merchoid has a ton of awesome, official swag. I need this ceramic BB-8 cookie jar in my kitchen, now.
Merchoid ships world-wide for free, and if you get your order in early enough it’ll even ship on the same day. They do note however that “Additional charges may apply for orders to Krypton, Kashyyyk and orbiting spacestations.” All in all it’s an amazing shop that is worth the browse and maybe even a few of your dollars.
Sure to be popular with collectors, the Final Fantasy 7 themed Monopoly will cost $49.99 and releases on April 14th, 2017. This seems like a more appropriate venture for Monopoly than a Broadway musical. Will you geeks be shelling out the Gil and picking this up when it drops in April?
