Rick Can’t Hold it Together in New Rick and Morty Preview

Even in the rough year that was 2016, we at least knew there would be new episodes of Rick and Morty waiting for us right at the end of it to help ease the sting. Well to that I say, wubalubadubdub!

This year will come and go without the promised third season of Adult Swim’s much beloved animated series, Rick and Morty. The new episodes were always proposed to debut in late 2016, yet here we are near the end of it all and no wacky adventures between a severely depressed scientist and his socially awkward teenage grandson.

Lucky us though, we have a little glimpse into how season three will go. Adult Swim recently held an impromptu live stream and showed off some storyboard animatics from one of the upcoming episodes. Enjoy for yourself below!

Given the production code and where the clip ends, we pretty much just saw a rough cut of the opening sequence for episode six of the third season. Starts off business as usual with Rick whisking Morty off on another one of their adventures just as things seem to be going right with Morty’s crush Jessica and then we go right into a sequence riffing/homaging the original Star Wars film.

The most significant thing in this clip however is how Rick reacts. Morty freaking out of what had just happened is commonplace for the series, but to see Rick lose it is something entirely different. This could possibly do with Rick’s time in prison at the end of the previous season. Maybe one of the over arching stories will be how being locked away affected him.

There are so many things to think about from just this storyboard alone!

What did you think of the clip? How excited are you for season three? Let us know in the comments below!

Rick and Morty season 3 will debut hopefully soon.
