It is time to reboot the reboot. ABC picks up The Conners (working title) for a 10-episode series for Fall 2018. The Conners is a spinoff of the hit show Roseanne, and comes in wake of its cancellation on May 29. The new show will take over the same time spot that was left vacant by Roseanne. Roseanne was cancelled after a controversial tweet posted by Roseanne Barr, the show’s namesake, star and executive producer.
Roseanne Barr will have no connections to the new show. The settlement reached between Barr and the series producer Tom Werner states Barr will have no financial or creative involvement. The Conners will feature the remaining cast of John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman, with additional cast members and a premiere to be announced at a later date.
No one knows exactly how the character Roseanne will be written out of the show other then “a sudden turn of events”. The Conners will have to deal with their daily struggles in Lanford in a way they never had to before. The show will feature stories that demonstrate how families can find common ground through their conversations, laughter and their love. Will the iconic living room and afghan on the back of the couch remain? Probably.
In a statement Roseanne Barr said:
“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from ‘Roseanne’. I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”
The remaining cast in a joint statement said:
“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

ABC network executives were very adamant of not proceeding with a spinoff if Barr would benefit financially in any way.
