Nintendo closed out the E3 press conferences on Tuesday June 12, and revealed a bunch of new titles including Super Smash Bros Ultimate. And literally everyone is here, except Waluigi. That’s right, Waluigi will not be in the fighting roster of the new game and the internet took notice, hard!

While the hottest topic of ‘where is Waluigi and why is he only an assist trophy is alive and on fire’, there are some other anticipated characters making their debut in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. These include Daisy, Inklings from Splatoon, and Ridley from Metroid. The 25 minute long reveal stated that every character from the Smash universe is in Super Smash Bros Ultimate even if they only appeared in one game. And in Nintendo’s defense, Waluigi was never in a Smash title before.
Daisy enters Super Smash Bros Ultimate as Princess Peach’s echo fighter. Simply put, Daisy has a similar fighting style to Peach, but her moves will behave differently. Daisy also has different characteristics then Peach. The Inklings enter as both Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl, and come in eight different outfits and colors. Inklings bring a lot of Splatoon abilities into the Smash universe, like the splat roller, and the splat bomb. You can coat your opponents in ink and they will take more damage from attacks also. Just like in Splatoon your Inkling will run out of ink, and when shielding you can absorb ink to continue your assault.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate will show the return of old stages, some that have not been in the game for 10 years, as well as brand new stages. Returning stages all have improved new graphics. All stages have Battleground and Omega forms. For those who don’t know the differences, Omega stages do not have platforms hovering above the battlefield. They also will be adding new items, including new Pokemon you can summon from their Pokeballs. There are also more then 50 Assist Trophies in the game, and they will assist whoever captures and uses them.
New techniques are brought into this title of the Smash series for all players to master, and Amiibos are compatible as well. The current Super Smash Bros amiibos are compatible, and any fighter’s amiibo from another series will also work in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I’m not 100% sure what that means, but it must be a big deal for Amiibo collectors. And the game is compatible with GameCube controllers! Some players feel the game isn’t the same without the GameCube controller and now they can stick with it.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is slated to release on December 7, 2018, just in time for the holidays. If you have the time, you can watch the 25 min long “trailer” below:
