Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor Costume Revealed

written by Suzanna Sponaugle November 12, 2017
There’s always an awful lot of running to do in Doctor Who, and Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor Costume is giving us major nostalgia.

Taking over for Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker’s will be regenerating into the titular beloved Doctor during the Christmas Special. As Time Lord Regeneration dictates, her clothes won’t change when her body does. So, she’s literally going to be wearing Capaldi’s pants. Let the humor commence.

BBC released the first official look at the 13th Doctor’s costume on November 9th and it’s giving us so many feels.

Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor in her new costumeThe homages paid to past doctors in costume are great, some being obvious like the suspenders for which Matt Smith made so popular. The boots are clearly for Chris Eccleston, Matt Smith again, and perhaps even 3rd Doctor Jon Pertwee. The overall eccentric feel could be a nod to the 4th Doctor Tom Baker and the over-sized trench coat has kind of been made a Doctor Who crux by David Tennant and for John Barrowman as a companion playing the ever charismatic and fan favorite Jack Harkness.

Although Whittaker’s announcement to be the next Doctor wasn’t fully embraced, the over all reception seems to have changed. People are becoming more accepting with the fact that The Doctor is being played by a female and part of that seems to be her costume choice. And Whittaker doesn’t want people to “fear her gender”.

“I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender. Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.”

The world of Doctor who is an infinite place of goodness. It highlights mankind as a worthwhile race that can do amazing things. That’s why The Doctor usually chooses human companions. When dramatic changes come through the universe of Doctor Who, it’s thrilling. Which, let’s face it, when aren’t there huge changes happening?
